CQC Supported Living Services

Like all CQC registration services there is a requirement for a registered manager and nominated individual to be part of the application. It is possible for the same person to be recognised as both registered manager and nominated individual. You can find out more about the responsibilities of a registered manager by visiting this page. We also have provided a guide regarding the role of a nominated individual which you can access by clicking here.

As a rough guide the nominated individual is in charge of the governance of your organisation and will be the representative of your organisation in charge of all corresponded e with the CQC. All notifications, strategic decisions including the appointment of the manager falls under the remit of the nominated individual.

Accommodation for Supported living

You do not need to source a property before applying for CQC supported living registration. This will allow you to meet expectations of the building the right support and right home.

There should also be separation of powers between the landlord and you, the provider. The accomodation should be independent from your care provision. This is commonly referred as the real tenancy test.

Meeting the Reach standards in supported living

The CQC will expect you to embrace the REACH Standards for your supported living service. The Reach standards are not compulsory but do promote the rights of individuals living in supported living settings. There is an expectation that you genuinely empower individuals you will be supporting to make decisions and have the same rights like any other citizen. You are required to empower and promote individuals living in supported living to make independent decisions and choices.

Reach Standards Supported living

The CQC will expect you to demonstrate how you will provide a person centred and human rights-based approach for your business. You will be expected to demonstrate how you provide the Right Support, Right Care and Right Culture as a CQC Supported living provider. Under Right Support, Right Care and Right Culture most local authorities’ contracts, those starting at a future date require you to work in partnership, involving individuals to source and secure their accommodation.

Providers are required to demonstrate a clear need for the service and how they take into consideration the wishes and preferences of individuals. There is a requirement to ensure individuals have access and can participate in community events of their choosing. Supported living Services will need to demonstrate that the model of care including policies and procedures are person-centred and in line with best practice focusing on the strengths of individuals instead of their drawbacks.

Learning Disability and Autism Specialism

If you plan to support individuals with learning disabilities and autism there is a requirement to demonstrate you have the skills and competencies to meet needs.
